Busy Fettercairn Gala Week

THERE was lovely weather for the Fettercairn Gala Day on Saturday, which brought to an end a busy programme of activities for Gala Week 2008.

This year's activities, run by Dave Walker and his committee, began with a concert by Billy Anderson and Friends, in front of a large audience. Refreshments were by the senior citizens' club.

Next was the Gala Songs of Praise during the Sunday morning church service.

Later that day there was an entry of 16 for the car treasure hunt and they found their way round a route compiled by Ian and Alison Argo.

They returned to refreshments supplied by the curling club.

First equal were the Lindsays and the Three Degrees and third One down and 2 to Go.

In a new event for this year, the Parent Forum organised a walking treasure hunt from the park pavilion. They also supplied suitable refreshments for all the children and parents who participated.

Winners were Calum and Lucy Wilson.

The bingo, as ever in the capable hands of Helen Thomson, enjoyed a good turnout and refreshments were by Queen Elizabeth Court.

Next was the quiz, compiled by Peter Myles and Douglas Lamb. Peter Myles was question master, assisted by Susan Myles and Alison Argo.

Ninteeen teams participated and enjoyed refreshments by the WRI.

First were Heather Mixture with Roaring Stones second. The Tea Leafers took the consolation prize.

Saturday's Gala Day enjoyed a good attendance and excellent weather and was opened by Mrs Janet Buchanan-Smith.

Everyone enjoyed the various stalls, competitions, fun fair and tombola and an excellent dancing display by Julie Butler's dancers, Dance Zone International.

Teas etc from the Guild were enjoyed, as were the burgers and bar facilities from the Fettery Shoppe.

Thanks go to Denise Floran for co-ordinating all the refreshments and to Ken Hay for refereeing the football tournament.

There were five entries in the football with Luthermuir 1 the winners.

The bowling competition attracted 29 entries. Winner was Jimmy Duncan and runner-up Gordon Bruce. Losing semi-finalists were Bill Brandie and Derek Ritchie.

The duck race resulted: 1 Molly Dalgetty, 2 Margaret Young, 3 Mike Moran, 4 Sophie Youngson, 5 Ken Thom. The prize for last place went to Elin Saunders.
