Fettercairn is gearing up for another cracking annual gala by announcing a programme of events to start at the end of May.

The gala is in its 38th year and, as ever, all money raised will go towards the upkeep of the Fettercairn Public Hall, the Sports Pavillion in the public park and Bridgend Paddock.

This year’s event will kick off with a quiz night on Friday, May 30 in which teams of four will compete to win the top spot.

It is always a well-attended event with refreshments included in the price of £3..

There will also be a ‘prize bingo’ evening on Monday, June 2, where participants will have a great chance of winning one of the many prizes on offer.

A gala spokesperson said: “This event has gone from strength to strength over the years with more than 90 people attending in 2013.

“The youngsters particularly enjoy their evening and there is nothing better than hearing them shout ‘YES’ when one of their numbers comes out.”

The car treasure hunt and children’s walking treasure hunt are scheduled for Wednesday, June 4, but the Fettercairn Gala organisers have said that this may well change.

The gala is due to overlap with the one at Luthermuir as both events take place at their regular time during the year.

With Fettercairn’s gala day being on the first Saturday in the month and Luthermuir’s being on the second Sunday, this year’s weeks will clash although that won’t happen again until 2020.

Thursday evening, June 5, will see a concert with the ‘Fisher Folk’- they are new to Fettercairn, with the lead singer travelling all the way from Orkney for the event.

The week culminates with the Gala Day itself, Saturday June 7, with most of the village organisations taking part one way or another.

There will be bouncy castles and an ‘It’s a Knockout’ competition and side shows, especially for the youngsters.

A bowling competition, tombola, raffle and craft tent are just some of what else is on offer and the duck race takes place from the arch, so look out for ducks which will be on sale soon.

There will also be the usual teas, burger stall and beer tent.

The craft tent will have tables for hire at £10 each. Anyone interested in booking one should telephone Helen Thomson on 01561 340309 .

The spokesperson added: “If you are able to help out with any of the events or Gala Day itself, or have any ideas which you think would be good to try please get in touch with Helen or any of the committee members.”
