A former Mearns Academy pupil has self published his own book on Amazon, detailing his fascinating life in China.
Michael Pearce, who grew up in St Cyrus, has self published his own book ‘Oh China! (What have you done now?)’ under his pen name, Michael MacPiarais.
He told the Leader this week: “It’s all about my time in China from 2008 up until May of last year, when we found out my wife was pregnant.
‘‘It also includes the year I came home and my subsequent decision to return to China.”
After leaving Mearns Academy in 2000, Michael joined the Royal Navy and for over four years was a communicator.
He moved to Stonehaven in 2005 and worked as a full time coastguard officer in Aberdeen until leaving for China in 2008.
He had a series of articles published in the Mearns Leader and Kincardineshire Observer in 2012 when he was living and working in Shijiazhuang (400km south of Beijing in Hebei province).
The book is available now.
