Volunteers sought

"COULD you help save a life?" Laurencekirk's new First Response unit is looking for more people to come forward to train as volunteers.

The Laurencekirk unit "went live" on December 1 and its personnel have already been called out five times under the direction of the ambulance service.

The unit currently has six trained volunteers, but as they are seeking to provide cover over a ten mile radius of Laurencekirk from 6pm - 6am and at weekends, more volunteers are needed.

An information evening is being held in the Mearns Community Centre on Tuesday, February 9 at 7pm to detail the work of First Response and explain the training involved.

Group spokesman Stewart Wight said: "We are looking for more people to come forward and train as we would like to boost our number to 12.

"The training is very interesting and leads to a national qualification."

If you are interested, turn up on the evening, or telephone Mr Wight on 01561 378379.
