luthermuir Village Hall Improvement Group have received a welcome boost to their fundraising after Kincardine and Mearns area committee agreed to award them £2,500 towards the first project for the newly formed group.
The money comes from Aberdeenshire Council’s top up budget and will be used to purchase flower tubs, compost and plants to be placed around the village at an overall cost of £5,000.
Speaking on behalf of the group at this week’s meeting of the Kincardine and Mearns area committee, Jeanette Anderson explained that the group was set up last years after members decided that Luthermuir was looking a bit “neglected”. She added: “We decided to do something about it, and our first project is to get these flower boxes situated around the village.”
£1,000 has already been pledged by the Tullo Windfarm Community Fund, and £1100 was raised during a fundraising St Andrews night in November. Mrs Anderson said: “We were overwhelmed by how much we managed to raise that night, it’s a fantastic sum for our small village to raise.”
Further community projects are planned, the first of which will take place tonight (Friday) as a celebration of the Royal Wedding.
