S1 pupils from Mackie Academy hosted a mini olympics event for the P7 pupils from Dunnottar Primary.
The following account of the event has been written by S1 pupil Jesse Zambrano.
On Tuesday February 8, 1U1 at Mackie Academy hosted a Mini Olympics for the primary 7 class at Dunnottar Primary School, as part of a project for their Rich Task class at school.
The event was hosted at Mackie Academy from 1:00-3:00pm. There were three different activities for the P7s to do, the Hammer Throw, the 1 Kilometre run and swimming.
The pupils of 1U1 and their teacher, Miss Hoggan devised a clever rota for the activities and everything was organised by the pupils, from allocating jobs to making certificates and score sheets.
The plan was for the class to learn and use many different skills to organise the event, and in the end to run their event with minimal help from the teacher. At the event there were seven teams; Orange, Red, Yellow, Black, Blue, Green and Navy. All the teams did surprisingly well in the activities, resulting in a very close contest.
In the swimming event, the Orange team came first. In the Hammer Throw, the Orange team again came first. The Yellow team came first for the 1 Kilometre Run. The overall winners were the Orange team.
The event proved to be a great success, at which both the P7 pupils and 1U1 enjoyed themselves very much. Everyone worked extremely hard for the event and were extremely glad that it went well.
