Mearns Camera Club’s third Open Competition of the 2011-12 session was judged on Monday (January 9) at their first weekly meeting of 2012, in Stonehaven Community Centre.
Judge was Neil Gove from Balmeddie.
Neil has judged Mearns club competitions before and said he enjoyed looking at the work and had found it harder than normal to judge the entries as a great number of the images were very close in standard.
Neil added that this standard was very high and the club had certainly raised it’s game since his last visit.
Choosing a winner eventually came down to his ‘gut instinct’ as there were several contenders in each category. His comments on the images were insightful and mainly supportive.
Top results on the night were: Black and White Print: 3 = ‘Walking In Light And Shade by Alan Gawthorpe and ‘Sandal Stall’ by Ping Lin 18 points; 2 ‘Train Of Thought’ by Diana Johnson 19 points; 1 ‘Yosemite River’ by Mike Ogden 20 points.
Coloured Print 3 = ‘Flight Check’ by Ros Birch, ‘Dawn At Skatie Shore’ by Neil Weston and ‘Giving It All’ by David Jarvie 18 points.
2 = ‘Storming The Bend’ by Allan Sutherland and ‘Between The Bridges’ by Pat Copner 19 points; 1 ‘Ready To Fall’ by Stuart Caie 20 points.
Projected Digital Image: 3 ‘Ladybird’ by Neil Weston 18 points; 2 ‘Twilight Coast’ by Donald Macmillan 19 points; 1 ‘Farmers at Thainstone’ by Allan Sutherland 20 points.
Allan Sutherland gave Neil a vote of thanks, commenting his obvious passion for photography, the hard work he had put in to judging the entries, the quality of his comments and his open-midedness.
