Proposals by Kirkwood Homes Ltd to build 310 house including 77 affordable units at Conveth Mains, Laurencekirk will go before Aberdeenshire Councils Kincardine and Mearns Area Committee on the January 19.

The application has been recommended for approval by Aberdeenshire Council.

Conveth Mains is allocated (M1) within Aberdeenshire Councils Local Development Plan (LDP) to deliver up to 885 houses and pproximately 11ha of employment land. A Development Framework for the whole site was approved by the council in 2013, as was a Masterplan for the first phase of development, which set the principles of design and infrastructure for the site.

Commenting on the proposals, Allan Rae, land director, Kirkwood Homes said: “Nearly a decade of work and careful consideration has gone into our proposals to deliver new homes and associated infrastructure in Laurencekirk.

“Throughout this time we have engaged and worked with Mearn’s Community Council, Villages in Control (VIC) Committee, as well as all residents within an interest in the future sustainable expansion of the town.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their valuable input and their help in shaping the proposals.

“The Conveth Mains proposal provides a real opportunity to provide a wide range of new housing in the Town. We are fully aware of the active and well supported campaign that has been on-going for over a decade regarding the current safety and capacity concerns at the south junction and we have therefore placed great importance on delivering the appropriate infrastructure needed to support the phased development of the site.”
