THIS Sunday (September 11) sees another historic occasion in the illustrious history of Stonehaven and District Sea Cadet Unit.
The Unit will be presented a New Colour by Commodore Charles Stevenson CBE RN, Naval Regional Officer for Scotland and Northern England.
The original Colour was presented to the Unit in April 1963 by the then Commanding Officer, LtCdr AG Mitchell MBE RN and his wife in memory of their son Laurence who died the previous September. The old Colour will be laid up due to being old and worn in the South Church prior to the presentation of the new Colour in the town’s Market Square.
Within the Royal Navy Colours are treated with reverence and seen as a bond between the Royal Navy and the sovereign. They are a symbol of honour for all those who serve under it and as such an open invitation is extended to all former members of the Unit to attend.
