The area tourism partnership for Aberdeen City and Shire which will lead the development of the sector in the north-east has appointed a new manager.
Elaine Booth has been appointed as the partnership’s new Tourism Partnership Manager and is enthusiastic about the task ahead.
She brings considerable experience to the role, with a wide background in the tourism and hospitality industry.
Her post has been established to lead tourism development across the region and to coordinate the new tourism partnership.
One of the first jobs is to work in partnership with private and public sector partners to develop a plan for creating a robust tourism strategy for the City and Shire.
Tourism has been identified as one of the four key sectors which heavily contributes to the economy of the region, with the potential to grow and flourish.
The new Area Tourism Partnership for Aberdeen City and Shire has been established to take over from the previous NESTOUR group, last active in 2010.
It is intended to be a true partnership between the private and public sectors, reflecting the goals and ambitions of Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future (ACSEF) and the economic future for the whole region.
An executive group will comprise leaders within local tourism associations, organisations and businesses and will ultimately form a tourism business network.
This group will be expected to provide visible leadership, acting as champions for tourism businesses, with key goals in creating the regional tourism strategy by bringing all the parties involved in visitors’ journey together, to ensure that Aberdeen City and Shire reaches its potential as a tourism destination.
“One of the first steps is for me to work in partnership with the executive group and all partners across Aberdeenshire involved in delivering the visitor experience to develop a plan for creating a robust tourism strategy for Aberdeen City and Shire,” said Elaine.
“This strategy will then provide a genuine framework for operations which takes account of planning changes, funding resources, development opportunities, market failure, product gaps and the like.
“It will also identify how City and Shire’s tourism industry can achieve increased economic impact locally and meet agreed national growth ambitions.”
