Writers from the Mearns will join together later this month to present for the first time a free evening of light-hearted verse and intriguing stories.
‘Having the Last Word’ will take place next Tuesday, September 30, at 7.15pm in the Station Hotel, Stonehaven.
The event will involve members of two popular writing groups organised as part of Aberdeenshire Council’s weekly adult learning classes who include published authors as well as writers who have won awards for poems, flash fiction and short stories.
The evening is part of a series of events taking place across Aberdeenshire entitled the ‘New Words Festival’ coordinated by North East Writers, a literature development organisation for the north-east which celebrates the writing of the area.
Aberdeenshire Council community learning worker, Alistair Lawrie, said: “We have produced four paperback collections of our work between the two groups which have been received locally with great enthusiasm.
“When we heard about the New Words Festival we felt it offered an excellent opportunity to present our work live to an audience.
“There is an impressive amount of creative talent in the Mearns as we believe this event will show and we look forward to welcoming people from near and far to Stonehaven.”
‘Having the Last Word’ will start at 7:15pm in the upper function room of the Station Hotel with doors opening at 6:45pm.
