A large crowd of invited guests enjoyed a “Fun Casino Night and Buffet” at Newtonhill’s Bettridge Centre last Friday night.
Portlethen & District Rotarians have moved to this new venue for their popular annual fund-raiser and once again there was a tremendous response from friends and supporters with nearly one hundred attendees. Just short of £1,000 was raised by the evening and this sum will be split between local and international projects supported by the club.
The Rotarians were helped once again by members of the Kirriemuir Rotary Club who acted as croupiers. The Kirriemuir Club came up with the idea of building up a travelling casino kit as a fundraiser with a fee payable to their club charity fund from each event that they attend. The ticket price for the event included a buffet meal and also a £10 bag of casino chips to allow the participants to “play the tables”. At the end of the evening people are able to trade in the chips they have left for raffle tickets and a selection of prizes was available to the winners including the first prize of a meal for two at the Muchalls Bistro. This year the buffet at the event was prepared and supplied through the nearby kitchen of the Newton Arms and thanks went to Yvonne, Norma and Paul for their help.
Local Rotary President Iain McLeod thanked the Kirriemuir Rotarians and also everyone who had attended and supported the event. The evening was well enjoyed by all and Rotary thanks goes to staff at the Bettridge Centre for their support.
