A Portlethen student is celebrating after being awarded a prestigious industry prize from the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) for his outstanding academic performance.
RGU surveying student Andrew Thomson (21), received the RICS award for best academic performance in his third year, alongside Jack McGowan (20).
He was presented with his prize by Aileen Beverly, of the north-east branch of RICS, at a special ceremony held at RGU recently.
Andrew, who is now in the final year of his degree, said: “When I found out that I had won the award I was really pleased. I would like to thank RICS and also Optimus (Aberdeen), where I spent my third year placement as a trainee quantity surveyor.”
Andrew cites his time with Optimus, an independent engineering consultancy and project delivery company as one of the highlights of his time at university so far.
He said: “The placement allowed me to experience a wide range of quantity surveying functions including cost engineering, project economics, compiling tenders and contract Drafting.”
