The start of the all weather pitch might be in sight after a pre planning presentation at the Stonehaven community council.
Members of the Stonehaven Community All Weather Surface Facility Committee (SCAWSFC) gave a pre planning application presentation to the Stonehaven and District Community Council (SDCC) on Tuesday October 8 at the Invercarron Resource Centre.
The SDCC have agreed to be the applicant for the all weather pitch which will see them foot the planning application costs up to £1,700 with a memorandum signed of the understanding between the two community groups.
The project will turn one of the existing pitches at Mineralwell Park into the all weather pitch which will be suitable for football and rugby. The pitch will use a 3G surface.
3rd Generation synthetic surfacing (also known as 3G artificial grass) is primarily for football and rugby which utilise longer fibres in a reduced density and filled with a mix of sand infill and rubber infill granules to provide some shock absorption.
Another area of Mineralwell will see a pitch suitable for netball and basketball, with schools and the community able to use the pitch.
The committee are in discussions with Aberdeenshire Council over a proposed £320k grant and an application to Sports Scotland for matching funding is being completed.
The group also recently completed a public consulation in which 92% of those attending were in favour of the all weather pitch being installed.
