A date has been set for this year’s Portlethen Gala and, with the ball now rolling, volunteers are being sought to help with its organisation.

The Gala is due to take place on Saturday, August 29, but more people are needed to help ensure that the day is a success.

The event faced an uncertain future last year when regular organisers, the charity Befriend a Child, announced they were no longer able to carry on with their commitment.

The event was saved by a small group of volunteers from Portlethen and District community council (PDCC), who put on what was hailed as the biggest and best gala yet, last summer.

However, the organisers have said that they were disappointed by the lack of help they were offered from the wider community.

Many more helping hands are needed to ensure that the gala can continue beyond this year and for the years to come.

A public meeting is to be held on January 28, in the Paddock Lounge at 8pm, and members of the community who think they could help, either in the run up or on the day are encouraged to attend.

PDCC member Mike Lloyd-Wiggins said: “Everyone who wants to be involved, please come along and help make it a day to remember. The Gala committee will also be elected at the meeting.”

Last year saw a wide range of stalls and activities, with the intention being to “cater for everyone”. What would you like to see at this year’s gala? Will you be going along to the meeting? Get in touch and let us know.
