A MOTHER behind a charity dinner which has raised more than £10,000 for Romanian children with physical and mental disabilities this week spoke of the impact it will have.
Heather Dick Reid from Fasque House near Fettercairn hosted the event at the historic Georgian mansion last month. The money raised will allow forty of the neediest children to spend one week at a purpose built camp at Casa Harului, set at the foot of the Carpathian mountains in Romania.
Mrs Dick Reid was delighted with the response on the night.
She said: “We had hoped to raise around £5,000 but to have more than doubled it is fantastic news.
“It is a constant struggle for many in Romania and during my time over there it became very apparent that disabilities are not catered for at any level for these families.“Doing a little here will make an incredible difference there by allowing a break for the children and their parents in an environment where they feel welcome and accepted.
“Not only will the money go towards the children but it will also help fund a restructuring of the roof within the camp.”
