Rural Bid Fund cash

THE Rural Bid Fund offers voluntary groups in the Mearns an opportunity to develop projects that the community see as a local need. Groups can apply for up to £400. Mearns Community Development Group (CDG) is a group of local people who help develop activities/programmes through the Education, Learning & Leisure services of Aberdeenshire Council.

The CDG is supported by Community Learning & Development, Leisure, Arts, Libraries and Sports Development staff. The CDG would like to assist local groups that meet the funding criterial funding outlined below.

Criteria for groups seeking funding: They must be in the Mearns Network (Arbuthnott, Auchenblae, Edzell Woods, Fettercairn, Fordoun, Laurencekirk, Luthermuir, Marykirk or St Cyrus).

Groups must Have a constitution; Show a need and Look at other sources of funding. Is the CDG the best group to assist?

They must Be self-suffucient; Identify present funding; Show how it used money and the impact on community/individuals and also seek media coverage to promote the role of the CDG.

Some of the projects funded last year included: Dickson Memorial Hall to help with the cost of a community noticeboard; Howe o’ the Mearns Pipe Band to help with setting up costs, equipment, publicity etc and the Howe of the Mearns Heritage Trust, to assist in the setting up of a community museum.
