A local five year old will be the talk of the class as his book is to appear in Portlethen Library to inspire other youngsters.

Kian Leith from Downies wrote the book ‘Kian and Timmy the Trawlers’ Big Adventures’ with help from Dad, Murray.

Murray told us this week how is son had written the book after being fascinated with stories he was told about Downies through the years.

Kians book has an environmental theme through it explained Murray.

He said: “They go off to rescue a seal with a plastic bag round its neck meeting local fisherman on the way. They save the seal, then use the trawlers net to clear rubbish up from the sea.”

All the pictures are from Downies village and of real people and buildings.

The fun project that took two weeks to complete was originally just for Murray and Kian until Portlethen Library asked for a copy to inspire young children to read more.

Murray added he was proud of the work his son put in

He said: “The input and thought he put into the book amazed me and made me very proud they way he picked all the pictures that Portlethen heritage site, let us use along with our own pics and tried his best to build a story some of his ideas he got from watching wildlife documentaries and he wanted a trawler as he stays near the sea and I used to work on the trawlers so made perfect sense.

“It was a great experience to see our book completed with no professional help just a simple book with a great story.”
