Local residents were given the chance to find out how the proposed new Mearns Academy will look and feel at two information sessions on Wednesday, at the St Laurence Hall, from 2pm-4pm and 6.30pm-8.30pm.
Plans for the design of the new school and community facilities that will be housed within the new campus were on display with opportunities to make comments on what will be available for sport, leisure and more.
Sports and leisure manager Tim Stephen said: “The event was open to everyone in the community and also ensured that representatives of sport, leisure, cultural, library and community groups had an opportunity to discuss the future design with council officers.”
Chairman of Aberdeenshire Council’s Education, Learning and Leisure Service Councillor Richard Stroud said: “This is an exciting development for Aberdeenshire Council and will be a focal point for the whole community.
“As well as being a modern education establishment it can also house improved community facilities including a library, large sports hall, community rooms, a modern fitness room and a full size all weather pitch.”
Vice chair Councillor Isobel Davidson added: “I encourage people give their views on the details of this development and ideas for future programming – it’s your school and your facilities.”
