The fund to pay for the repair of the roof of St James Church in Arbuthnott Street has reached over £13,500, two-thirds of the way to pay off the £20,000 bill.
The funds have come from donations, grants, and a huge fund-raising effort from the relatively small congregation.
A series of fund-raising events, including bag-packing, cooking competitions and social events have boosted the fund.
The fund was started in January after dry rot was found in some of the roof timbers of the beautiful Grade 1 listed building.
The next fundraising event is another of the successful Book Browses, on Saturday, May 18, from 10am until 4pm. Over 2000 nearly new books, including fiction, crime, children’s and cookery will on show along with many new donations on display for the first time.
Two weeks later, at the Feein’ Market, the Bishop, Nigel Peyton, will be in Stonehaven dispensing his own brand of episcopal pancakes for everyone’s enjoyment and the benefit of the Roof Fund.
