The countdown is on to the 2015 Stonehaven Highland Games, which takes place this Sunday (July 19) at Mackie Academy playing fields.

In the lead up to the main event on Sunday, there will be a Kids Mini Games on Saturday (July 18) from 1-3pm. Registration is on the day for 5-16 year olds to come along and try some of the Highland Games events.

The main event on Sunday is from 11am-5pm, with all the usual Highland games events including Highland dancing, light and heavy events, pipe band and solo piping and a first for Stonehaven, the Scottish amateur tug o’war championships qualifier for the Europeans. As well as all that there will be BBQ,beer tent, funfair and plenty of stalls/entertainment.

Chairman of the games, Roger Barnett, told the Leader: “The games are in good shape for Saturday’s and Sunday’s event, but without the hard work of our committee and volunteers this event would not be possible. The venue and its stakeholders (Mackie academy and its staff) also play a major part in ensuring the games run smoothly. We have some new additions this year including the amateur tug o war Scottish championships. Lastly without the competitors and judges we would not have a games and I would like to wish them good luck.”
