The smoke has settled on bonfire and firework displays after Laurencekirk and Inverbervie hosted their events last weekend.

Laurencekirk fireworks have been hailed a resounding success with 1500 people travelling to the town to see the display organised by the local Business Club.

The venue was provided by landowner John McWilliams and the night sky was lit up by the display.

Donna Allan, Business Club secretary, said: “The LBC would like to take this opportunity to thank all their sponsors for their generous donations, without which this event would not have been possible.

‘‘It was a truly successful community event, and we hope one that will be on the Laurencekirk Business Club calendar again for next year.”

In Inverbervie it was highlighted at Mondays RBICC meeting that the gala committee are to retire at the next annual general meeting.

This means that Sunday’s firework display may well have been the final one in the Royal Burgh.

The fireworks and Christmas lights are funded by the Bervie Gala Committee and profits from the annual events are distributed to local groups and clubs.

A post on ‘What’s on Inverbervie’ highlighted the success of the fireworks on Sunday and the need for more volunteers to join the committee to continue the success of events such as the Bervie Gala and firework display.
