Stonehaven Folk Club resumes for the second half this Friday, after the traditional July break, with the visit of outstanding young folk duo Miranda Sykes and Rex Preston. Miranda is a fine singer and base player and has worked extensively with English duo Show of Hands. Former Radio 2 presenter Mike Harding said of her recent album, “Miranda’s a fantastic bass player but this really brings her great voice out into the foreground.” Meanwhile Phil Beer of Show of hands said of Rex Preston: “He is one of the new generation of brilliant virtuoso instrumentalists raising the bar; a tremendous player.” Club Chair Andy Popplestone said “The recent appearance of the North East Folk Collective at the Stonehaven Folk Festival showed there are plenty of talented young people coming through in the North East wanting to play acoustic music. Miranda and Rex are a hugely exciting and talented young act and I hope some of those who recently attended the Festival and enjoyed the variety well known and less known acts come along to see the top quality live artists we have week in week out at the club. Except for ticketed nights where we have space constraints we welcome accompanied school age children free and we hope the experience of seeing some of the fantastic acts like Miranda and Rex we have will inspire them to take up singing and learning an instrument themselves”.
