THE Royal Hotel in Stonehaven has been awarded a silver award as part of the Best Bar None awards, which returned to Aberdeenshire last Wednesday.
There were seven winners from across Aberdeenshire who were recognised for their work over the last year to run safe and responsible drinking establishments.
The Best Bar None scheme is sponsored by Diageo and has a number of aims, including reducing the risk of alcohol-related harm, disorder and crime, establishing a benchmark for good practice with others, raising public awareness of the benefits of choosing to use well run licensed premises and also for creating a positive vehicle for all sectors of the night time economy to work together in partnership.
Aberdeenshire has been involved in the scheme since 2007 through the Community Safety Partnership and the Scottish Business Crime Centre.
Chairman of Aberdeenshire’s Community Safety Executive, William Munro, said: “It is wonderful that licensed premises across the region are continuing to demonstrate their dedication in running establishments in such a professional manner.
“The Community Safety Executive is committed to ensuring Aberdeenshire is a safe place for all who come to visit, and Best Bar None is a very effective resource available to us.”
Provost Jill Webster, who presented the winners with their awards, said they showed that the staff were conscious that their customers were looked after properly and felt safe on a night out as well as showing willingness between the staff and police.
She added that the award winners were “very much to be congratulated” for their work.
The national award promotes and maintains an inclusive national Awards Scheme for all licensed premises across the UK, building wholly on good practice.
Best Bar None raises standards and rewards excellence for the venues attaining the Award standard, which is delivered at a local level by active partnerships between the industry, local authorities and police.Anyone interested in applying for the 2014 awards should contact Kate Rigby, Strategic Development Officer on (01467) 628439, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
