Stonehaven businesses had a good showing at an awards ceremony at Aberdeen’s Beach Ballroom last week.
The best Aberdeenshire restaurant went to Tandoori Haven, while Nu Spice was runner-up in the Best Takeaway category.
Owner of Nu Spice, Raj had a lot to celebrate at the awards, as his restaurant India on the Green was chosen as overall winner for the North-east in the Aberdeen Best Curry Awards on October 14.
This was the second annual event run by Aberdeen Lions.
The evening was suitably spiced up by an appearance from EastEnders star Preeya Kalidas, who topped off the ceremony with a vocal performance.
Raj said: “It’s great to win the award. We’ve already won a national award but winning on your home ground is more of a privilege and more exciting.”
India on the Green, which replaced the award-winning Green Inn, was put forward for the award by its customers.
Raj added that using local ingredients was key.
He said: “We only use fresh, local produce, and unlike other Indian restaurants we don’t just have one basic sauce.
“By using local produce we are supporting our local shops and, in turn, they are supporting me.”
