Maureen Watt MSP has welcomed a decision by ScotRail to install a ticket vending machine at Portlethen Railway Station.
Ms Watt, who has long campaigned for better facilities at the station, has been informed that, thanks to funding from Transport Scotland, the ticket machine will be put in place by the end of the summer.
In addition, ScotRail have advised that, once this is in place, the potential for installing electronic customer information screens will be assessed.
The Member for Aberdeen South and North Kincardine said: “This is excellent news which I’m sure will be welcomed by the ever-increasing number of people who are using Portlethen station.
“Since gaining additional services in 2012 I have been fighting extremely hard to secure improved facilities for the station.
‘‘Today is the first step towards achieving that goal.”
Ms Watt added: “Improved services and facilities are key to encouraging people off the road and on to rail.
‘‘I will continue to lobby for further improvements at Portlethen.”
