The 70-year-old, known locally as Vera, was very well liked at the Scotmid in which she worked at Laurencekirk.
Scotmid’s head of corporate communications, Malcolm Brown, said: “As you can imagine, especially at this time of year, this has been devastating news for Vera’s family, our staff and our customers.
“Vera worked for us for four years and was an extremely popular member of our Laurencekirk team. Our thoughts go to Vera’s family at this difficult time.
‘‘We would also like to take this opportunity to thank the local police for the professional and sympathetic way they have handled this tragic event.”
