Tributes have been paid to former Newtonhill sub-postmaster George Still who has died after a long illness.
The post office branch in Skateraw Road had shut temporarily last December while Mr Still battled with ill health. However he died late last week.
Local councillor Ian Mollison said: “I was very sorry to hear that George had lost his fight to regain his health. After retiring from the police he had made his mark in the village as the local postmaster. My thoughts are with his wife Betty and their family.”
Former local councillor Anne Tunstall said: “George was very good to the village, and residents appreciated the service he provided. He will be missed.”
The funeral was being held on Thursday December 1 in Aberdeen. Post Office Ltd now intends to run an outreach service for Newtonhill, hosted by a sub-postmaster from a nearby branch at a fixed site. Opening hours will reflect the likely number of customers. Any interested organisation, such as a hall, community centre, or public house, should contact the Post Office’s National Consultation Team, PO Box 1138, St Albans AL1 9UN, or email firstname.lastname@example.org
