Things are certainly hotting up for Stonehaven Folk Festival, with tickets for the Festival concerts selling well. Organiser Charlie West said: “We have had a lot of interest in particular for the Old Blind Dogs who are rare visitors to the North East these days and also for the legendary Piper Fred Morrison. Fred will also be leading a workshop on Sunday the 8th. We are have also finalised most of our workshops and I am particularly excited about the new Youth Workshops this year.”

A special series of youth workshops funded by the Strategic Music Partnership will be run on Friday the 6th and Saturday the 7th July from 10-3 led by two very accomplished musicians, Anna Massey and Maireared Green.

There will be two streams of workshops one for P4-7 ages and one for 12-18 year olds. These workshops are for young musicians who can already play an instrument and want to play and learn some traditional Scottish music. Pre booking is recommended and details are available from www.gadiemusic.org. The workshops will lead to an opportunity to join the North East Folk Collective playing at the Aqua Ceilidh and the Cowie Fringe on Sunday the 8th July. There will also be two workshops for younger budding musicians and singers on Saturday the 7th and Sunday the 8th July, these will be for preschool and P1-3 children with an interactive theme.
