Luthermuir went straight on the attack and penned Bankhead into their own half from the off. Neil Arthur was first to threaten as he fired a shot from the edge of the area over the bar then the same player cracked another shot wide.
Bankhead had
barely been out of their own half when Luthermuir took the lead in eight minutes. Durrand played an excellent ball into the box for Murdoch Anderson and his neat backheel found the advancing Greig who fired past the exposed goalkeeper.
Good play from Derek Anderson and Greig down the left saw the ball fed to Ryan Arthur and his cross was met by Murdoch Anderson on the volley but it was straight at the goalkeeper.
It was Anderson's final involvement as he left the field with a thigh strain to be replaced by Irvine.
Despite Howe not having had a touch, Bankhead had a chance to get back into the match on 25 minutes when Scott Robertson tripped a Bankhead forward in the box. The referee pointed to the spot but Luthermuir got a break when the ball was fired against the post and cleared by Robertson.
A bitter sweet day for Ryan Arthur started on 40 minutes when Duff was fouled 25 yards from goal. Ryan Arthur bent the free-kick round the wall and into the top corner of the net to send Luthermuir in at the break 2-0 up.
Duff then Durrand forced saves from the goalkeeper before Luthermuir grabbed their third on 50 minutes. Reid played in a corner and Ryan Arthur bulleted home a header from the edge of the six yard box.
Bankhead got another chance to get back in the game on 52 minutes when a cross was played into the box. Mark Robertson clearly chested the ball down and played it away but to Luthermuir's amazement and Bankhead's amusement, the referee gave a penalty. Howe was the hero this time as he smothered the kick low to his right.
Five minutes later it was 4-0 as another quick break saw Durrand fouled in the box and he picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way from the spot.
Luthermuir made a further two changes due to injury as Duff had a back strain and Greig a dead leg but still Luthermuir continued to threaten.
Luthermuir scored again on 62 minutes. Irvine won the ball in midfield and fed Durrand who beat the keeper in a race to the through ball.
Durrand had been forced wide but delivered an excellent cross for his strike partner Ryan Arthur who nodded home for his hat-trick. However, his joy was short lived as he damaged ankle ligaments when he landed and Luthermuir, having used all three substitutes, had to play the remaining 30 minutes with ten men.
Neil Arthur and Callum Young did an excellent job of retaining possession for their team as the visitors looked to exploit the extra man. Pearson played in Durrand and his pass found Young but his shot was blocked, then Reid played an excellent through ball on 75 minutes and Durrand fired home but a late whistle from the referee for offside cut the celebrations short.
In the end a convincing win but a disappointing performance from a Luthermuir side who can do better. The win was slightly overshadowed by injuries to Murdoch Anderson, Duff and Greig all of whom should be alright, but Ryan Arthur may be out some time after badly damaging ankle ligaments.
