Luthermuir 3 Dyce 4

LUTHERMUIR FC were relegated for the second successive season when they lost at home to Dyce in their final league game on Saturday. Luthermuir have plunged from the Premier Division into Division One North and now into Division Two in successive campaigns.

Luthermuir entertained Dyce knowing they needed to win and hope that Bridge of Don didn't take enough points in their remaining games to overhaul them.

Despite the importance of the match, the management team were disappointed to find they only
had 11 fit players and were missing an incredible 15 signed players for the game.

Luthermuir were first to threaten when good play from Hamish Stuart and Mason sent Pearson clear on the right and his cross was held at the second attempt.

In 15 minutes, Luthermuir threatened again, Fotheringham ran onto a Reid through ball but a Dyce defender got back to clear.

Luthermuir deservedly took the lead in 30 minutes. A Mason cross was played into the path of Euan Duff by Stuart at the edge of the area and he ran through to ram home the opener.

Luthermuir looked comfortable at this stage but Dyce created a chance on the break. A Dyce attacker had a shot that was cleared off the line by Lindsay but fell for another Dyce player and Luthermuir had a major let off when his shot from 5 yards hit the bar and was cleared to safety by Irvine.

Luthermuir started the second half in confident fashion but Dyce started to force them back with a series of quick breaks. Luthermuir had the chance to go two up in 55 minutes. Grant won the ball in midfield and played it through to Iain Stuart. He was clear of the Dyce defence but opted to square the ball to the supporting Fotheringham and a Dyce defender raced in to clear a certain goal.

Things started to unravel for Luthermuir when they lost a soft goal after 60 minutes. A cross was played in from the right and Hall failed with his punch allowing a Dyce attacker to bundle the ball into the unguarded net.

Things got worse five minutes later. Lindsay made a good interception in midfield but then proceeded to lose the ball. The ball was played forward and the right wing cross was fired under the exposed Hall.

Luthermuir equalised five minutes later when a Fotheringham through ball was crashed home past the advancing goalkeeper by Duff.

The game was open with both teams looking for the winner and Dyce thought they had it with ten minutes to play. A corner from the left was headed home from six yards despite Pearson's efforts to clear on the line.

Luthermuir again responded and forced a series of corners. The first was headed wide by Reid under pressure then a Duff volley was parried on the line by the Dyce goalkeeper despite protests it had crossed the line.

Luthermuir equalised in 85 minutes, when Hamish Stuart lashed the ball home after a dangerous cross into the box.

Just as the game looked to be heading for a draw, Dyce snatched the winner in the final minutes. Again, a corner was headed in from four yards.

A disappointing end to a frustrating season and the Luthermuir management team are disappointed by the number of odd goal defeats suffered.

Luthermuir: Hall, Morrison, Grant, G. Lindsay, Duff, M. Pearson, Reid, Fotheringham, H. Stuart, Mason (I. Stuart), Irvine. Sub: I. Pearson.
