SEASON 2007-08 will go down as a campaign to forget for St Laurence FC.

Despite a few good performances, the Saints finished second-bottom of Division Two North and were relegated to Division Three.

In their home league programme, the Saints chalked up wins over Haliburton, Huntly and Trophies International, but failed to show enough consistencey.

Their away record was worse, with only wins over Rothie Rovers and Kittybrewster to lighten the gloom.

Stonehaven Athletic won the league, with Newtonhill and Grammar Rovers also promoted and Kittybrewster and Trophies International, were relegated along with the Saints.

The complete St Laurence league record was: Stonehaven Athletic L4-8 (h) L0-5 (a); Newtonhill L2-3 (h) L1-5 (a); Grammar Rovers L0-1 (h) D0-0 (a); Glendale Youth L1-5 (h) D3-3 (a); Haliburton W3-2 (h) L2-7 (a); Rothie Rovers L3-4 (h) W2-1 (a); Mintlaw D3-3 (h) L1-5 (a).

Grammar FP D2-2 (h) L2-3 (a); Feughside D2-2 (h) L1-5 (a); Continental L3-4 (h) L1-5 (a); Monymusk L2-3 (h) L1-4 (a); Huntly W1-0 (h) L0-6 (a); Bankhead D4-4 (h) L2-6 (a); Kittybrewster L2-3 (h) W3-1 (a); Trophies International W3-2 (h) D3-3 (a).

The Saints had a home record of W3 D4 L8 F35 A46 and an away record of W2 D3 L10 F22 A59 which gave them an overall record of W5 D7 L18 F57 A105.

The Laurencekirk side had no success in cup competition, with first hurdle defeats in all five competitions they entered.

In the Scottish Cup they put up a brave display but lost 3-2 to Premier Division team Beacon Rangers and in the North of Scotland Cup, Division One outfit Bridge of Don won 6-3 at Laurencekirk.

Stonehaven Athletic beat them 4-1 in the Castle Rovers Cup and the other two cup competitions saw defeat in ties the Saints really ought to have won. Division Three side Hayloft won 1-0 in the AFC Trophy and in the Dickie Trophy there was a 2-1 defeat against BSFC from Division Two East.

The seven goals scored in the cups gave the Saints a total of 64 for the season.

Scott McCombie was top scorer with 23 goals and he was followed by Doug Harley with nine and Murray Leitch with seven.

Other totals were Sean Ogilvie and Gareth Reid with four, Craig Fraser, Jamie Borland, Blair McCombie and Neil Jaffray with two and Peter Manson, Craig Robertson, Robbie McLaren, Neil Reid, Andrew Duncan, Chris Fenby, Craig Morris, Derek Anderson and Paul Stewart all with one.

There was one St Laurence hat-trick, Scott McCombie in a 3-1 win at Kittybrewster on the opening day of the season.
