Bervie welcomed league leaders Mintlaw to Gourdon for a must win match and were dealt a blow before kick off when keeper Duncan pulled a muscle in the warm up.
After a quick defensive reshuffle with Falconer taking over the gloves, Bervie started the game on the offensive and had an early chance. Liam Smith broke clear and his shot was saved and Liam Anderson had an effort from the rebound blocked on the line.
Bervie kept pushing and took a deserved lead when Frazer Cerretti ran through to round the keeper and score. It looked like Bervie could score at will and they increased their lead when Calum Mennie hounded the full back into making a mistake and crossed for Cerretti to tap home his second.
Cerretti should have completed his hat-trick when he burst clear on the stroke of half-time but the keeper rescued Mintlaw with a good save.
Bervie started the second half in the same vein and increased their lead five minutes in when Smith latched onto another fine ball from Mennie to lob the goalkeeper.
Bervie continued to press for more goals to no avail, with the defence offering great cover to Falconer who dealt admirably with everthing that was asked of him. If Bervie are to continue with a promotion push this is the level of performance that will be required.
