Bervie exit AFC Trophy

Bervie Caley 2 Burghmuir 4 BERVIE kicked off this AFC Trophy second round match on December 12, having displayed better form of late.

A young Bervie team, deprived of several important players, tried to take the game to the visitors from the off but the game quickly became a midfield battle with Bervie struggling to contain the Burghmuir front line.

Bervie conceded the first goal when a save from old stalwart Donaldson making a rare appearance rebounded to the visiting striker to bundle the visitors ahead.

Worse was to follow when a cut back left a striker with a tap in to make it 2-0.

Bervie started the second half in determined fashion and within a minute a good interchange bewteen Robertson and Milne released Cerretti who shot low and hard into the corner from 20 yards.

The equaliser soon followed when a pass from Milne released Cerretti again and he coolly lifted the ball over the keeper's head and into the net.

Bervie kept pressing and the visiting keeper produced a fine double save to deny first Robertson from distance and then Milne's follow up effort.

Bervie should have gone ahead when Melvin blasted a Robertson effort over the bar from 4 yards out.

This proved to be the turning point and twice Bervie switched off to allow Burghmuir to score sloppy goals from a Bervie viewpoint.

Bervie tried hard to get back into the game and Milne had a chance but drove straight at the keeper.

The only plus point from a Bervie management point of view on a disappointing day was the return of Calum Mennie from injury to make his first appearance of the season.
