Closer to promotion
Mearns United 3 Alford 1 MEARNS United moved a step closer to promotion with a win over Alford on Saturday.
Mearns took the lead in 12 minutes when a through ball from Wiseman was slotted home by Craig Horner.
In 29 minutes a mistake by the home side let Alford in to equalise.
The home side went back in frontin 37 minutes when a Horner cross was volleyed home by Craig Irvine.
Mearns made sure of the three points in 77 minutes. Ryan Stewart was brought down on the edge of the box and he curled the free-kick into the bottom corner.

MEARNS saw their promotion prospects take a knock on Monday when they didn't play well and were beaten at home by Bankhead, the team they thumped in the Barclay Cook Cup final.
Mearns were tired and minus four injured players and they were outgunned by a Bankhead team very much out for revenge.
Bankhead took the lead in 22 minutes.
Mearns equalised a minute from half-time when Ryan Stewart blasted home a free-kick.
Bankhead went 2-1 up in 51 minutes with a 35 yard drive into the top corner, then they added a third seven minutes later.
Mearns had a chance to get back into the game in 79 minutes when Irvine was brought down in the box, but Stewart had his penalty saved by the keeper.
Despite this defeat, Mearns are still firmly on course for back to back promotions with three teams stepping up to Division One. They have five games left.
