First defeat for Newtonhill v Lads

Lads Club 2 Newtonhill 0 NEWTONHILL slumped to their first defeat of the season, to Lads Club at a very wet Hazelhead Park on Monday August 15. Newtonhill welcomed back captain Martyn Brooks, Cameron and new signing Carmichael to the fold.

Lads club started off the more determined of the two teams and bombarded the Newtonhill rearguard with long balls into the box which were doggedly defended. At the other end Newtonhill nearly snatched the lead when Blacklaws cut inside before rifling a shot in which was turned over by the keeper.

Minutes later M. Brooks tried his luck with a curling 20 yard effort which again was parried over by the Lads Club keeper.

Lads Club made the breakthrough just short of half-time when The Hill failed to clear a corner and a Lads Club midfielder was on hand to smash the ball home via the underside of the bar. Newtonhill came out in a more positive fashion for the second half but were held at bay well by an impressive Lads Club defence. The Hill were still looking for an equaliser and with just 5 minutes remaining a Carmichael cross found Keith who saw his effort from 6 yards come back off the keeper. The rebound fell to Johnstone who blazed over the bar.

just moments later a Lads Club counter attack saw a player lob Farquhar to make it 2-0 and end the game.
