Bervie were playing their last match of the season with the same line up as the previous two weeks, with Beedie back as an addition to the subs bunch.
There was a big crowd at the Haughs for this home match helped with the nice weather and the disappearance of the wind just after midday.
Bervie were eager to start this match after the strong performance against East End where they were unlucky not to get a draw.
The defensive line up of Frater, McCombie, Macleod and Brown, with Walker in goal, had been unchanged for a number of weeks and was getting better as the weeks went on.
Colony Colts started the match but immediately lost the ball as Bervie pushed and Bellu dis-possessed a midfielder and fed the ball out to E. Morrison on the right who fired down the line and crossed in for the Colony goalie to just reach the ball before Bellu got the return pass.
Bervie continued the good play, passing the ball about well, but a combination of final passing and some excellent goalkeeping was keeping the score at 0-0.
M. Smith had hit the post and the bar plus was denied by a very good timed defensive tackle in the box. There were shouts for a penalty but the referee got it correct and nothing was awarded.
Dandie also hit the post while having his best game of the season. Eventually, the opener came after 33 minutes from a McCombie throw on the left to S. Smith who had run into space, he then turned back towards the half line and heard a shout from E. Morrison on the right and flighted a great ball across the top for E. Morrison to run onto and hit an unstoppable drive into top left of goal.
It was a good goal to watch with movement, shout and switching play from one side to the other created the opportunity. This goal sparked Colony into life a bit and Walker had his one and only save of the first half from a shot from outside the box but it was well held. Bervie had a few half chances but the goalie and one of the Colony defenders were having a good game. Half time 1-0,
Bervie discussed some changes but decided to wait to see if they could get the second goal. Bervie were pushing hard for it and after the fifth corner of the second half eventually scored. A C. Morrison corner was cleared by the Colony defence but fell to Bellu whose half hit shot caught the goalie off balance and his attempted save bounced off inside of his leg and in for the second goal in 54 minutes.
Bervie then made changes discussed at half time over the next 10 minutes, Walker moved out of goal to striker, McCombie went into goal, S. Smith back into defence and Bellu back into midfield. Beedie then went on for Frater at right back, Darling went on for Dandie as he was struggling with a knee injury and had run himself into the ground.
Then F. Smith went on for M. Smith as striker alongside goalie Walker up front. Game plan was for one of these two to score if they could. Darling had come on and was playing better than he had done recently after his return from holiday and his replacement for Dandie had worked well to the extent that, in the 72nd minute, he scored a great header for the third from a C. Morrison corner.
C. Morrison then came off and M. Smith went back on. Beedie had settled into the game and had a couple of good overlapping runs and was only a couple of yards away with the final cross into the box for the Walker and F. Smith combination getting a goal.
Even with the subs on Bervie were pushing really hard with some hard tackling from S. Smith. Bellu fired in a great cross which was a couple of yards in front of Walker and, if F. Smith had just reacted a fraction quicker and stretched his leg at the back post, he would have scored the goal the whole team were working for. Bervie created a few half chances for Walker and F. Smith but eventually the full time whistle blew.
There was a real buzz in the dressing room at full-time but also sadness with it being their last match. Good Luck to all the players wherever their careers may take them.
