Coastal rivalry on the football pitch netted more than £500 for local good causes when teams from Gourdon and Bervie met on Boxing Day.

Players drawn from the two villages took to the field for a post-Christmas match which ended all square. The final score was 3-3 with the Gourdon goals from Chelsey Lownie, Kevin Rendall and an own-goal from Neil Watson. The Bervie goal scorers were Jordan Greig, David Hay and Jordan Hay.

Donations from players and spectators netted a total of £540 which was split equally between Inverbervie Pre-School and the Gourdon Tadpoles toddler group.

Organiser Jamie Davidson said: “The game was played in good spirits.

‘‘It was also a very good way to work off the Christmas excess while raising money for charity at the same time.

“A good day was had by all followed by a few refreshments in the Harbour Bar afterwards.

“We felt the funds raised should be put to good use locally so were delighted to be able to give £270 each to Bervie Pre-School and the Gourdon Tadpoles toddler group.”
