Stewart cut inside and was brought down outside the penalty area and Shand tried his luck with the free-kick but could only send his effort over the bar.

The hosts had a great chance on 13 minutes when a passback was missed by Capstick, with the aid of the bobbly surface, but he got up and saved the danger at his front post.

With the next attack it was advantage Stonehaven, after referee McFarlane pointed to the penalty spot. McTavish was seen to have had his shirt pulled and ROBERTSON stepped up, to send McIntosh the wrong way and open the scoring. On 26 minutes, Jordan Reid was sent clear down the Hive right and he was unlucky to see his good cross cleared by the Banchory defence in the middle as Shand looked to pounce.

Just after the half hour mark, some good play down the Hive left saw the ball played in to the edge of the six-yard box and after the ‘keeper fumbled it was just about cleared for a corner.

The Hive held on to take the win and will now travel to Inverness in the next round.

The ball in from the corner found the head of REID who hit the top right corner to double his side’s lead.

Pyper had the last chance of the half when the ball was switched from the left and fell invitingly into his path but he could only shoot over the top.

Stonehaven started the second half on the front foot and Jordan Reid had two chances within the space of five minutes, but both times he was just unable to get a telling touch to beat McIntosh.

Shortly after, a corner found McTavish and his great header forced an equally great save from McIntosh.

McTavish was on hand at the other end on 56 minutes when he cut out a Davie header at the back post, as the hosts looked to pull a goal back.

Shand had a great chance to increase the lead on 67 minutes when he was played in down the right but his shot was blocked by the feet of McIntosh.

A long throw into the Banchory box only just managed to stay out, five minutes later, as The Hive looked to pull away from the home side.

Jordan Reid tried his luck on 78 minutes but McIntosh was equal to it.

With a little under 10 minutes remaining, Shand picked up a great ball from Sulkevicius and rounded McIntosh but was unable to finish from a tight angle.

Darren Pyper came close on 85 minutes, when he saw his shot from the edge of the area tipped over by Capstick.

The home side pulled a goal back in stoppage time, after the defence failed to sufficiently clear their lines and the shot found the bottom corner.
