Luthermuir WFC had a long trip to the other side of Edinburgh in the Scottish Cup to visit Hearts Development at Tranent Juniors ground.
The visitors were on the back foot straight from the kick off with Hearts moving the ball about the pitch well.
Luthermuir created a good chance when Boyack released Egginton through on goal but her shot was saved well by the keeper. Quickly the ball was thrown out but Lownie was first to react and gained a corner down the far right, Bruce whipping it over but the defence dealt with it and cleared.
Godsall was late with a tackle and went in the book. From the resulting free kick the ball was taken down from the attacker but she fired wide. Luthermuir gained some advantage after 14 minutes and had a string of corners but could not trouble the keeper.
Eventually the first goal of the game was scored when a corner to Hearts down the left was whipped over and cleared by the defence. First to react was the Hearts player who played it back in and a one -two gave the attacker time to fire it from six yards high into the net - 1-0.
Hearts then pressed Luthermuir further into their own half and created a few chances but Charles handled the long shots with ease.
Hearts doubled their lead after 28 minutes when Bruce conceded a foul out wide on the edge of the box. The midfielder fired it over Charles into the top corner for 2-0.
Luthermuir then made a change, bringing on Santos for Burn, with a change of formation to try and stem the flow of attacking from Hearts.
‘Muir had another great chance on the 38th minute when Egginton had the ball in behind the defence for Lownie to race towards goal. She fired it high but the keeper saved well.
As the half was coming to an end, Luthermuir gifted Hearts another goal when the ball was played over the back line and, as Charles shouted and raced from her goal, the attacker nipped in and headed it into the empty net for 3-0.
Luthermuir WFC knew that they now had an uphill climb to get back into the game with the loss of that goal just before half-time. They made another change when Andrew came off for Nicol to join the action.
Hearts were now comfortable passing the ball about with ease across the pitch. Luthermuir had a handful of chances over the next 15 minutes but could not convert.
The homesters did eventually get a fourth when a ball down the left had the Hearts attacker racing in to the box where she crossed it and Charles punched clear but it fell to the other attacker and she fired it home into the empty net.
Egginton picked up a knock s and was replaced by Crichton. Luthermuir made a change to the formation to try and get something out of the game but this didn’t change the pattern of the onslaught from Hearts.
The ball was going out for a throw-in when Murison got involved with a home player and the referee gave her a red card.
With 10 men, Luthermuir pressed forward and gained a corner on the far right, Hendry whipped the ball over and, as the keeper punched it in the air, Lownie was first to react to head it in the net for 4-1.
Murray replaced Godsall down the left and the final few minutes of the game saw Hearts create a few more chances but fail to hit the target.
Lownie was booked after 8 minutes and the quick free kick was put in behind the defence when the attacker drilled it home for 5-1. It was an afternoon where Luthermuir got a lesson in passing from a well organised Hearts team.
