Spirited Colony lose to Stoney

Stoney won this match against bottom club Colony but the game was slightly unfair on a spirited Colony side who battled hard and could have grabbed a couple of goals themselves.

A Porter cross was deflected just wide by Kennedy then Tench and Kennedy both surged into the box to slide shots just wide.

Townsend ran from the midfield to fire just over then Colony narrowly mist a chance with Smith making a last ditch clearance. One touch play from Townsend onto Christie resulted in a ball through the middle which Kennedy took in on the keeper before firing in an opener with her left foot.

Townsend then passed to Porter in the box who dragged the ball back before firing into the opposite conrer to make it 2. It was attack against defence in a wide open game with only good keeping from Imray and tigerish defending from Evans, Mackay, Smith and Brawley keeping Colony out. McVey and Doyle both came on to add some pace to the back line to try to counter the quick breaking Colony.

After half time Stoney’s more composed play and greater strength started to pay off. Kennedy sped in on a Christie pass to make it three. Then Townsend danced her way past a couple of players to fire in from the edge of the box.

Townsend and Robertson’s pace then was utilised by Stoney to good effect in defence whilst Smith and Mackay add some power to the middle of the park. Doyle fired a 20 yard shot off the bar then Christie again put in Kennedy for a precise finish to make it 5-0.

Mackay put in Kennedy for a rasping sixth then a Porter shot came off the bar with Kennedy trying to slide it in before Christie rattled it in from close range for 7. Porter ran in on goal onto an Imray goal kick to blast in another at the near post. Christie nearly scored a classic solo goal before Mackay blasted in a ninth. During this late goalfest Colony had a glorious chance but Imray made a great fingertip save pushing a shot onto the bar.

STONEY SQUAD Danni Imray, Sophie Evans, Shannon Brawley, Daisy Smith, Heather Mackay, Katy Townsend, Katherine Robertson, Erin Christie (c) , Amy Tench, Lisa Porter, Aria Kennedy, Aisling Doyle, Lucy McVey

MAGIC MOMENT Porters dragback and finish and Chrisite’s solo run

PLAYER OF THE MATCH plenty of claims with Porter on song and Christie creating but narrowly shared between striker Kennedy and Townsend who did well in two roles.
