Stoney Ladies lose out to Aberdeen

Aberdeen Reserves 6

Stonehaven Ladies FC 2

Stonehaven travelled to first division team Aberdeen Reserves in the Scottish Cup second round.

Stoney knew they weren’t favorites to win the tie but did their best to play football like they do in the league.

Aberdeen took the lead, a through-ball from midfield found their striker, who rounded Paterson in goal to finish into an empty net.

Shortly afterwards it was two-nil after the Aberdeen striker again found a lot of time and space to slot home.

Stonehaven were still very much in the game and got a much-deserved goal of their own after good work from Penny in the midfield to find space to finish past the Aberdeen keeper.

Aberdeen responded quickly to make it 3-1, and although Stonehaven kept pushing they made it 4-1 before the half time whistle sounded.

Half time - Aberdeen Reserves 4 - 1 Stonehaven Ladies FC.

Stonehaven made a few changes at half time, altering formation to try and stop Aberdeen having so much time and space in the middle of the park. This did stop them creating as much but Stonehaven were struggling to create any clear cut chances of their own.

Aberdeen got their fifth of the match to end any hopes of a Stonehaven comeback, and finished off their scoring with their sixth goal after good work from their attacker on the left hand side got her past the Stonehaven defender to finish from close range.

Stonehaven were awarded a penalty after good play from Stout who was brought down in the box. Stout got up to take the penalty herself, a brilliant finish leaving the Aberdeen keeper no chance.

It was a tough game for Stonehaven who battled well till the end.

Next game for Stonehaven is an away league fixture against Aberdeen Development on August 3.
