Securing the SFA Quality Mark Development Award and now marching towards the prestigious Community Club Award with Stonehaven FC, Cowie Thistle FC, Stonehaven Athletic FC and Stonehaven Ladies FC has marked a stunning year.
Stonehaven Youth Football Club has also seen planning permission and funding secured for the new community all-weather facility, 30-plus coaches attending one or more SFA coaching courses, first aid courses and the roll out of the Positive Coaching Scotland initiative to all our coaches!
That was pointed out at the club’s recent AGM, at which coach coordinator Richard Thomas’ report also offered praise to Sandy’s Loyal Twitter fan base which had improved communication and networking with other clubs!
The report added: ‘‘It is also worth mentioning that since Callum Imray and I attended the Aberdeen FC scouting assessment last year, under the watchful eye of Colin Grant and AFC Legend Neil Simpson, and were appointed network scouts for the South Aberdeenshire area our lads have had vastly improved exposure from AFC.
‘‘We also have three lads representing SYFC at the SFA 2020 Development Centre trials and we wish them all the best of luck and to enjoy the experience.
Exciting times ahead…..
‘‘We now look forward to the first of the new generation of SYFC teams moving up into 11v11 football. This is an exciting time for the club as we follow the SFA National Pathway into competitive football. A lot of work has gone into our development age groups and the numbers have grown year on year so it is great to see these young lads come through and take on their next challenge as a new era begins for SYFCs competitive age groups.
‘‘It is also an exciting time for girls ‘football in Stonehaven as we see both our U13s and U16s squads competing against strong opposition and also the growing number of development age group girls coming through. So please spread the word as we would like to improve these numbers and encourage more girls to take part in the beautiful game!
‘‘There were many positive high points through the season but the buzz around Stonehaven during the U16s’ push for promotion was really good fun and we wish them all the best for next season. I look forward to integrating them with the U19s during the season.
‘‘Last, but by no means least, I would like to thank all the coaches, managers and committee members that help to run this club. It is safe to say that without all of you giving up your time and weekends we would not be able to provide the development opportunities we currently do.
‘‘I would also like to thank the parents for their continued support and for their various roles as taxi drivers, cheerleaders and for helping with equipment on match days and the list goes on.
‘‘On behalf of the club I would also like to give a huge thank you to all our sponsors who make a big contribution to the running of the club and ensure our boys and girls look the part at training and on match days.
‘‘Most of all, I would like to thank all the kids that make being part of SYFC worthwhile even when it is throwing down with rain on a muddy Baird Park or enduring a five-day SFA coaching course!
This year has been another big year for SYFC and we have achieved a tremendous amount that we can all be proud of. What will next year bring?’’
