Fordoun triumph
Fordoun made the worst possible start to this Piggins Cup first round tie, gifting Montrose Athletic the lead inside 30 seconds. They gave the ball away on the edge of their box and the visitors capitalised. It went from bad to worse and in 8 minutes a deflected free kick made the score 2-0.
Up stepped captain A Stirling to drag his side back into the game.
In 14 minutes he determinedly barged his way into the box and forced the ball home. His and Fordoun’s second was a strike from 25 yards which flew inside the post.
Galaxy lead for the first time in 22 minutes when Thomson played in N Keddie who finished well.
Fordoun didn’t lead for long and Athletic broke from their own half and a floated cross to the back post was headed in from close range.
The visitors then had the effort of the game when a 30 yard rasper smacked the upright, they also forced Marc Milne to produce some top drawer saves.
It was Fordoun who held the half time lead when a Thomson trundler was spilled by the visiting keeper and Deans tapped in.
The home side were soon in control of the cup tie as Murray went in on goal to score. Murray then turned provider when he whipped a corner which experienced marksman R Keddie finished.
Cuthill sent Davies away on the left and the substitute’s tantalising cross was finished by R Keddie to make it 7-3.
Deans then demonstrated his finishing prowess to make it 8-3 with his second of the game.
Mo Athletic restored some pride with two late goals which were almost identical as twice Milne, who had little to do second half, was chipped by an attacker cutting in from the left and the ball found the back of the net.
