Johnshaven 3

MS United 4

Johnshaven lost 4-3 at home to MS United in the second round of the Association Trophy on October 27. This was one of only three games played last weekend due to bad weather.

MS took the lead in the 11th minute. They were awarded a penalty and the taker sent keeper Smith the wrong way.

MS made it 2-0 when a mix up in defence led to a fluffed kick by keeper Smith and a visiting player calmly slotted home.

Myers then broke through the MS defence but the keeper reacted by coming off his line quickly to make the save. This was closely followed by a long range shot from Ross Blease which went over the bar.

In the 35th minute Beedie was clipped by an MS defender leading to a penalty and Ross Blease stepped up to score.

Just before the half-time whistle, the ball fells to Ross Blease at the back post and he drilled it past the keeper for an equaliser.

In the opening minutes of the second half a 25 yard shot from Ross Blease struck the post to deny him his hat-trick.

The nightmare in defence continued as an MS corner was not cleared and one of their players was on hand to tap home from seven yards to put them back into the lead.

In the 62nd minute Johnshaven made a double substitution when Luke Myers and Stephen Scott were replaced by Grant Philip and Darren Cruickshank.

Johner’s next goal attempt was a 35 yard shot from T. Dalgarno which rattled the MS crossbar.

Soon after a corner from Rausch found Scott Beedie who equalised with a clinical header.

MS could only clear Johnshaven’s next corner as far as Hood whose volley from the edge of the box unluckily hit the bar.

In the 85th minute Rausch was fouled and Johner were awarded another penalty. Once again Ross Blease stepped up but a fine save by the MS keeper denied him his hat-trick once again.

Just after this a mix-up in the Johnshaven defence allowed MS to take advantage and put themselves into the lead 3-4.

In the dying minutes of the game Johnshaven made their last substitution when Kyle Kulinski replaced Jordan Rausch.

Johnshaven were unlucky not to get another equaliser and take the tie to extra-time when a shot from Scott Beedie hit the inside of the post and stayed out.

Johnshaven: Matthew Smith, Steven Scott, Lawrence Slavin, Ross Blease, Stephen Scott (Grant Philip), Tom Dalgarno, Jordan Rausch, (Kyle Kulinski), Scott Beedie, Luke Myers (Darren Cruickshank), Lee Hood, Shaun Blease.
