On-form Johnshaven hosted local rivals Stonehaven Athletic on Saturday and it was the home team who came out on top after battling back from a goal down.
Johnshaven had the first real chance in the 7th minute when Steven Smith shot narrowly wide of the post.
In the 13th minute a Mennie effort looked netbound only for a defender to make a superb block.
Stonehaven then enjoyed their best period of the match and were unlucky not to take the lead with a couple of efforts from the edge of the box both going narrowly wide.
0n the half-hour mark Smith went on a solo run and his shot beat Stonehaven’s keeper but the ball hit the post and rebounded back into the arms of the keeper. The away team made their pressure count in the 35th minute. An excellent counter attacking move put their striker in on goal, and he blasted the ball into the bottom corner.
Johnshaven came close to getting a goal back on the stroke of half time when Hood cut inside on to his left foot but his shot sailed over the bar.
Just 2 minutes after the restart Stonehaven had a glorious chance to double their lead, but M. Smith saved brilliantly with his feet.
Stonehaven gave the home team a reminder that they still posed an attacking threat and only a great block from Dalgarno kept the scoreline at 0-1.
In the 70th minute Johnshaven were awarded a free kick 30 yards from goal and Nayland MacLaren curled the ball into the top corner.
In the 74th minute Johnshaven took the lead with a fine example of an excellent counter-attacking goal. MacLaren beat a couple of players and found Hood and his inch perfect pass gave his strike partner Robert Milne a simple tap in at the back post.
In the 82nd minute the Stonehaven keeper fluffed his kick and the ball landed at Comiskey’s feet. His effort from 40 yards saw the keeper recover well to save. An excellent battling display from the home team who turned in a great second half performance.
