Johnshaven fight to avoid drop

JOHNSHAVEN Athletic go into 2010 with their number one aim being to preserve their Division One East status in the Aberdeenshire Amateur League.

With 14 league games played, Johnshaven lie fifth from bottom of the division and need a good second half of the season to pull themselves away from the relegation zone.

Johnshaven have been strong at home with wins over FC Geldie, neighbours Bervie and Insch to their credit and in their final game of 2009, league leaders Woodside visited, defending a 100 per cent league record and only went home with a 1-1 draw.

Johnshaven have only picked up one point away from home, a 2-2 draw with West End, but they have shown that on their day they are a match for any side in the division and a first away win surely won't be long in coming.

There have been mixed fortunes in cup competition, Stoneywood Amateurs were beaten 2-0 away in the second round of the North of Scotland Cup, but Woodside won 4-0 at Johnshaven in the White Cup as did Banchory in the Aberdeen FC Trophy.
