Johnshaven reach round four

Johnshaven Athletic 4 Grammar Rovers 3 JOHNSHAVEN had only 11 players available for selection for this North of Scotland Cup third round tie, due mainly to work commitments and holidays.

The match saw the return of Gav Buist from a long-term injury and the debut of new signing Scot Pithie.

In the 7th minute a Johnshaven defender attempted a clearance under pressure from a Grammar player. The ball ricocheted off the Grammar player's leg and went in off the post.

In the 12th minute, in a good flowing move, Smith fired in a low cross to Leon Dundas who back heeled the ball into the net for an equaliser.

In the 18th minute Milne slipped the ball through to Carnegie who lobbed the advancing Grammar keeper to put Johnshaven into the lead.

In 25th minute Johnshaven had three attempts in quick succession at goal, including a Buist header which went just over the bar.

In 30 minute later a corner by Pithie found Ross Blease but his header went just past the post.

In Johnshaven's next attack Milne rounded two men before picking out Leon Dundas whose shot was saved by the leg of the Grammar keeper.

In the 37th minute a Ross Blease shot was blocked and the rebound fell to Leon Dundas who had the easy job of tapping into an empty net

Just on half-time a Grammar free kick was played into the box and fell to a player who slammed home to make the score 3-2.

In the 51st minute, Grammar played the ball through Johnshaven's defence to one of their players who ran on to score.

On the hour mark Ross Blease was one on one with the Grammar keeper and his shot was parried

Six minutes later a Pithie shot was saved by the Grammar keeper at his near post.

Grammar were unlucky when they lobbed the advancing Johnshaven keeper. The ball bounced back off the post and Dalgarno cleared the danger.

Johnshaven won the game in the 88th minute. Ross Blease played a long ball through to Pithie who played it to the back post where Milne tapped into an empty net.

Despite tired legs and a few niggly injuries the 11 players on the park deserve full credit for they ensured Johnshaven a place in the fourth round which is the furthest the club has ever gone in this cup.

Johnshaven: Gourlay, Dalgarno, Reid, G. Buist, Smith, Pithie, R. Blease, Cruickshank, Carnegie, L. Dundas, Milne.
