Luther edged out

Luthermuir 3 Torry United 4 LUTHERMUIR were edged out 4-3 by Torry United on Saturday.

Luthermuir started well and could have had a penalty in the opening exchanges but the referee waved away the handball claims.

Luthermuir opened the scoring in 20 minutes when Greig forced the ball through to Murdoch Anderson and his well hit 20 yard shot found the net.

Torry equalised in somewhat fortuitous fashion in 25 minutes when a corner was cleared back to the taker and his next cross hit the back post and crossed the line.

Torry took the lead in 35 minutes with a header from a free kick that was played into the Luthermuir box. Torry went further ahead right on the stroke of half time when a dangerous break down the left saw the ball squared along the six yard box and knocked home.

Luthermuir started the second half well and pinned their opponents back. Anderson struck a post in 55 minutes and Duff knocked the rebound wide.

McCombie fashioned an opening that the keeper saved then Greig danced into the box but the keeper got down well to his shot.

The home side continued to press and Fotheringham sent a drive into the keeper's body and Scott Robertson headed against the post and wide from a corner.

Luthermuir continued to fight and got a goal back in 70 minutes when Duff's header was saved and Scott Robertson crashed the rebound into the roof of the net.

The Luthermuir defence was caught by a breakaway goal in 75 minutes when two players were sold a dummy and the ball was fired into the top corner of Howe's goal.

Luthermuir were still creating plenty of chances and got a goal back in 80 minutes when Ryan Arthur helped the ball on and Murdoch Anderson flicked it past the goalkeeper.

It was all Luthermuir in the final 10 minutes as Duff, Greig, Anderson and Darar all went close or were denied by the keeper.

Luthermuir: Howe, Darar, D. Anderson (R. Arthur), G. Lindsay, S. Robertson, Duff, N. Arthur, Fotheringham, M. Anderson, S. McCombie, Greig (Walker). Subs: Hall, Slesser.
