Luthermuir exit Association Cup

Blackburn 3

Luthermuir 2

Luthermuir exited the second round of the Association Trophy on Saturday when they were beaten 3-2 at Blackburn.

Blackburn were a big, strong side and pushed forward from the kick-off.

They took the lead in five minutes when a low cross into the box was fired home.

In seven minutes a long throw was headed on and headed just wide on the back post.

Luthermuir didn’t learn from their let-off and lost a goal in 12 minutes. Another throw-in was headed on and this time headed into the net.

It became obvious early on that Luthermuir were to get nothing from the referee who seemed to have it in for them.

Despite this Luthermuir got a goal back in 30 minutes when a corner from Greig was headed home by Jai Clayton.

Ten minutes later it was 2-2. Greig broke on he right and crossed for Clayton to score.

Luthermuir pressed in the second half but were thwarted by a picky referee who persistently halted play.

It was Blackburn who scored a contentious winner in 70 minutes. A free-kick was played into the box and when Wands came to collect he was kicked on the arm and bundled over the line with the ball.

The referee saw nothing wrong and awarded a goal and Wands, sporting studmarks in his arm, was booked for his protests.

Luthermuir failed to create any scoring chances as time ran out.

Luthermuir: Wands, Darar, Morrison, Duff, Craig, Reid, Arthur, Donald, Clayton, Greig, Anderson. Subs: Murray, Milne, Young, Elrick, Tough.
